Susan McQuade, Safety and Health Specialist II Susan McQuade serves as a Safety and Health Specialist and Coordinator of NYCOSH’s Youth Project, which hosts the YouthSafe Contests for New York State teens. She also helps facilitate the New York State Young Worker Health and Safety Project, a consortium of state agencies, unions, youth advocates and organizations seeking to improve working conditions for teens. In addition, Susan develops curricula for safety and health training and conducts trainings for youth, transit workers, women in nontraditional employment and other workers. Her recent activities include coordinating the NYCOSH Pandemic Flu Task Force, a union-led coalition that sponsored educational sessions about the need for flu preparedness plans at all workplaces. Before joining NYCOSH’s staff in 2002, Susan spent eight years as an occupational health and safety educator with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), where she also worked as a union organizer and labor educator. She served for four years as a union representative with Doctors Council, SEIU/10-MD. A health educator by profession, Susan became interested in health and safety when she served as a steward for IBT Local 237.
